The name Yason is derived from Yason who landed here with the Argonauts. There is an old monastery/church called 'Panaya' on the lower side of the cape. Panaya Church is located on the peninsula within the borders of Çaytepe.
This church was built in 1868 by the Greeks and Georgians living in the region and its architecture is very special. Yason Cape is actually a very old settlement. In the 3rd century AD, Christians used to come here after celebrating the birth of Jesus in Giresun and participate in the 'Festival of Lights'.
